¹When Israel came out of Egypt

– The house of Jacob from a people who spoke a foreign language –

²Judah became his sanctuary,

And Israel his great dominion.

³The sea saw it and retreated;

The Jordan turned back.

⁴The mountains danced like rams,

And the hills like the young of sheep.

⁵What was the matter with you, O sea,

That you should retreat,

And that you, O Jordan,

Should turn back?

⁶– That you mountains should dance like rams,

And you hills like the young of sheep?

⁷O earth, writhe in the presence of the Lord

– In the presence of the God of Jacob,

⁸Who turned the rock into a pool of water

– Flint into a water-source.
