¹So I exhort you first of all to make pleas, prayers, intercessions, thanks, for all men, ²for kings and all those in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and calm life in all godliness and solemnity, ³for this is good and acceptable in the sight of our saviour, God, ⁴who wants all men to be saved and to come to acknowledgment of the truth. ⁵For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, ⁶who gave himself as a ransom for all, the testimony at its own particular time, ⁷to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle – I speak the truth in Christ; I am not lying – a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth. ⁸So I wish for men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument, ⁹and for women similarly to adorn themselves in discreet dress, with modesty and sobriety, not with braids or gold or pearls or extravagant clothes, ¹⁰but – which is fitting for women who profess godliness – with good works. ¹¹A woman should learn quietly and most submissively, ¹²and I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to dominate her husband, but to be quiet. ¹³For Adam was formed first, then Eve, ¹⁴and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and came to be in transgression, ¹⁵but she will be saved throughout childbearing, if they remain in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.
