1So I exhort
you first of all to make pleas, prayers, intercessions, thanks, for all men,
2for kings and all those in high positions, so that we may lead a quiet and calm life in all godliness and solemnity,
3for this
is good and acceptable in the sight of our saviour, God,
4who wants all men to be saved and to come to acknowledgment of
the truth.
5For
there is one God, and one mediator between God and men,
the man Christ Jesus,
6who gave himself
as a ransom for all, the testimony at its own
particular time,
7to which I have been appointed a herald and apostle – I speak the truth in Christ; I am not lying – a teacher of
the Gentiles in faith and truth.
8So I wish for men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands without anger or argument,
9and for women similarly to adorn themselves in discreet dress, with modesty and sobriety, not with braids or gold or pearls or extravagant clothes,
10but – which is fitting for women who profess godliness – with good works.
11A woman should learn quietly and most submissively,
12and I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to dominate
her husband, but to be quiet.
13For Adam was formed first, then Eve,
14and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived and came to be in transgression,
15but she will be saved throughout childbearing, if they remain in faith and love and sanctification with sobriety.
