Revelation Chapter 9

1Then the fifth angel sounded the trumpet, and I saw a star that had fallen out of the sky to the earth. Then he was given the key to the shaft of the abyss, 2and he opened the shaft of the abyss, and smoke came up out of the shaft, like the smoke of a burning furnace, and the sun was darkened, as was the air, by the smoke of the shaft. 3Then locusts came out of the smoke to the earth, and they were given authority as the scorpions of the earth have authority, 4but they were told not to harm the grass of the earth or any greenery or any tree, nothing except the men who do not have the seal of God on their foreheads. 5But it was not granted to them to kill them, but for them to be tormented for five months. Now their torment is like the torment of a scorpion when it stings a man, 6and in those days men will seek death, but they will not find it at all, and they will long to die, but death will escape them. 7And the appearance of the locusts was like horses prepared for war, and on their heads were kinds of golden crowns, and their faces were like the faces of men, 8and they had hair like women's hair, and their teeth were like those of lions. 9Furthermore they had breast-plates like iron breast-plates, and the sound of their wings was like the sound of many horse-drawn chariots running into battle. 10And they had tails like scorpions with stings, and in their tails they had authority to harm men for five months. 11They had a king over them – the angel of the abyss. His name in Hebraic is Abbadon, and in Greek he has the name Apollyon. 12The first woe has passed. Behold, two more woes are coming after these things. 13Then the sixth angel sounded the trumpet, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God 14say to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river, the Euphrates.” 15So the four angels who had been prepared for the hour and for the day and month and year were released, in order that they should kill one third of men. 16And the number of the cavalry troops was hundreds of millions. I heard the number of them. 17And this is how in the vision I saw the horses and those seated on them: they had fiery and violet and sulphurous breast-plates, and the heads of the horses were like the heads of lions, and fire and smoke and sulphur came out of their mouths. 18One third of men were killed by these three plagues, by the fire and the smoke and the sulphur which came out of their mouths. 19For the instrument of authority of the horses is in their mouth and in their tails. For their tails are like serpents, having heads, and they do harm with them. 20But the rest of men, who were not killed by these plagues, did not repent of the works of their hands, so as not to worship the demons and the golden and silver and bronze and stone and wooden idols, which can neither see nor hear nor walk around. 21And they did not repent of their murders, or of their sorceries, or of their fornication, or of their thefts.
